The Catalyst housings are sized according to the exhaust gas flow rates. the number of elements in a housing is determined by the reduction that is needed, The EL series housing is designed for lean burn applications, and has the elements arranged for a single pass through the elements, the ER series is designed for the Rich Burn applications, and has the elements arranged for a dual pass through the elements. the less reduction that is needed the more blanks can be used, the more blanks that are used the greater the back pressure increase.
